I tend to agree with Matthew on this one. I realize that these services can pull in great amounts of money through advertising, but do they pull in earnings that would put them into a multiple anywhere near reality?
CenterNetworks recent post has an anonymous commenter who claims that their application will bring in “ad revenue in the lower millions this year.” Let’s assume that for a minute. Lower millions is 1-2 million? Then we are looking at a 15-30x revenue valuation. That’s insane. Plus, this is a fairly volatile industry to be in. I seriously doubt that any of these companies could ever see this type of money.
That being said, if someone was willing to pay that much for an app, then all the better for the developer.

I can’t say I’m really surprised by this move. When you take a defense that ranks #15th(ish) and in a few years make it #30, you have to expect that something like this would happen.

UPDATE:
TheOBR (always known for their classiness) has a bit more information on the story:
And just what was the genesis of the problems between Crennel and Grantham? According to several players, none of whom would speak on the record, Grantham “schemed behind RAC’s back” in an effort to get him fired before the bye so that he could take over as the interim head coach and, possibly, secure the position for years to come.
Furthermore, Barry McBride, the grand poobah of the OBR, had this to say about why they held off on the story:
From what we know, we believe that the Cleveland Browns were looking for ways to allow Grantham to secure his future as a coach within the NFL before leaving the organization. This could be easier done on his terms, and on a timeline that allowed him to continue to work with the organization while finding another role somewhere in the NFL.
Within the organization, as this information started to seep out, it was perfectly correct to say that Grantham was still the team’s defensive coordinator. Folks with less knowledge of the details could easily tell reporters outside the organization as “Grantham is gone”, which was likely true in terms of his not being the DC as the 2008 OTAs and training camp began. But not technically true, in that he was still a member of the organization and had not been “fired”.

Schneier on Security: Hacking the Boeing 787
This is crazy, scary stuff. They had better figure this out and soon.
The computer network in the Dreamliners passenger compartment, designed to give passengers in-flight internet access, is connected to the planes control, navigation and communication systems, an FAA report reveals.
…
According to the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration, the new Boeing 787 Dreamliner aeroplane may have a serious security vulnerability in its on-board computer networks that could allow passengers to access the planes control systems.
Wow.

It’s a pretty neat site - I never hung out much in the Lower East Side when we last lived in NYC, but did a year in college there.
The site runs on Drupal? Interesting.

According to the Plain Dealer (by way of ProFootballTalk.com), Browns offensive coordinator Rob Chudzinski has canceled a planned interview with the Ravens for the team’s vacant head-coaching position.
I cannot even explain how AWESOME that is to be. Chud has been an integral part of the Browns’ success over the past season and it was crucial to keep him. In Savage We Trust.
